The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services (MCDSS), in partnership with the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD) has successfully implemented disability and inclusive development interventions that has benefitted several communities in Zambia for over ten years.
In order to expand coverage and reach, it was agreed that Chongwe District in Lusaka Province be targeted next, to reach and support more persons with disabilities with improved habilitation and rehabilitation services, inclusive education and promote disability rights and social inclusion, through a multi-sectoral approach. Recently, in consultation with the social sector ministries of community development and social services, education and health, a baseline study was undertaken to inform planned interventions in Chongwe District beginning this year 2021.
Following the dissemination of the baseline report in September 2021, a training for 30 district level Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) trainers’ was held from from 4th-8th October 2021 in Chongwe. The newly trained CBID trainers were drawn from various government line ministries, non government organisations, the church and organisations for persons with disabilities. The newly trained CBID trainers, are scheduled to train upto 200 community volunteers from various community structures in Chongwe from 18-22 October 2021.
